A handcrafted Moroccan Thuya burl wood chess set, made by master artisans in Essaouira — the ancient capital of Moroccan woodcraft. Compact enough to travel, beautiful enough to display.
Each board is cut, fitted, and polished entirely by hand. The checkerboard surface combines dark Thuya burl with pale lemon wood inlay — two native Moroccan woods, two contrasting tones, one striking object. When the game ends, the board folds shut and latches closed, keeping all 32 hand-turned pieces safely inside.

Thuya burl (Tetraclinis articulata) grows only in the Atlas Mountains and coastal forests of Morocco. Its swirling amber and copper grain has been prized since Roman times. No two boards are ever identical — yours will carry the specific fingerprint of the tree it came from, and will still hold its faint natural cedar fragrance when it arrives.
